Wear Leveling
Wear Leveling is used almost universally in Flash products today to ensure that data is written equally to all blocks on a Flash device, thereby preventing the overuse of any particular block, leading to failure of the device and data loss. Wear Leveling therefore improves the endurance and stability of a Flash product.
Wear Leveling works by having the controller make an erase count of each block and direct new data to be written to the block with the lowest erase count.
In general, Wear Leveling works to ensure that write actions are made to blocks that have the lowest erase counts, to average write actions across the entire device and extend the lifespan of the device. It has become an imperative technique in Flash products. Transcend’s Flash product lineup supports Wear Leveling to ensure product endurance and reliability.
Wide Temperature
Thanks to the advanced technology, flash and DRAM devices feature high endurance and reliable performance, making them useful for a wide range of applications, from industry, where long operating hours are required, to the military, where shocks and vibrations are regular occurrences, to vehicles where stability is a must, to the IoT, where ruggedness benefits users worldwide. To ensure that products have a long lifespan and low maintenance costs, wide temperature technology has become a bedrock feature of many devices.
Wide temperature technology allows devices to deliver stable, reliable performance under extreme temperatures. Devices that have passed wide temperature testing can operate in temperatures ranging from -40℃ to 85℃. Transcend’s products for embedded solutions are fully tested to run efficiently in this temperature range.
Intelligent Power Shield
Intelligent Power Shield (IPS) is a patented Transcend technology for solid state drives (SSDs) with a DRAM cache that ensures the integrity of data in the event of a sudden power outage. IPS makes use of capacitors to prolong the time available to shift data in the DRAM cache to the SSD’s permanent flash memory. This ensures data integrity in the event of a power outage. During normal computer operations, these capacitors are charged so that they may power the SSD during an outage, ensuring that write operations are completed. By adding capacitors, IPS prolongs the time to complete the flushing of the DRAM cache to the permanent NAND memory after a sudden power loss.

SSD Control Center software processes SSD information in real-time, and can be managed through the user’s cloud server of choice. The client can monitor their Transcend SSD performance via a web browser from anywhere at any time.
